WELCOME, FRESHMEN!

THE TIME IS NOW

When you’re in ninth grade, four years seems like a long way off. But just ask a senior: The time will fly by. And the road to college begins now.

We know you have a lot on your plate already, getting used to a new school and making new friends. But the time is now to:

Hit the books.

Starting this year, your grades are being recorded on a transcript that will be sent to colleges when you’re a senior. College admissions officers will look at your grades starting this year. The first step to good grades is good attendance, so it’s important to make sure you’re in school every day on time.

Stay on top of your Regents.

You’ll want to pass at least one this year so they don’t pile up later.

Schedule an appointment with your guidance counselor.

Counselors may be busy, but they want to help you figure out the best classes to prepare for the college or career of your dreams. If you don’t know what you want to do, your counselor is a great resource to help figure that out, too.

Your decisions this year will impact your life for many years to come. Just like a healthy breakfast starts your day off right, hard work in ninth grade will put you on track to a successful high school career and a bright and prosperous future. Are you good to go?
